Module 3: On-Page SEO
On-Page SEO Best Practices
On-page SEO involves optimizing the elements *on* your website to improve search engine rankings and user experience. This is the part of SEO you have the most direct control over.
Core On-Page SEO Elements
- Title Tags
- The clickable headline in search results. It should be unique, descriptive, under 60 characters, and include your primary keyword near the beginning.
- Meta Descriptions
- The short description under the title tag in search results. It doesn't directly impact rankings, but a compelling meta description increases Click-Through Rate (CTR). Keep it under 160 characters.
- Header Tags (H1, H2, H3)
- These structure your content. You should have only one H1 tag per page (your main title). Use H2s for main sections and H3s for sub-sections. Use keywords naturally in your headers.
- URL Structure
- Create short, descriptive, and keyword-rich URLs. For example: `your-site.com/blog/on-page-seo-guide` is much better than `your-site.com/p=123`.
- Image Alt Text
- Alt text describes an image for visually impaired users and search engines. It's an opportunity to include relevant keywords and improve accessibility.
- Internal Linking
- Linking to other relevant pages on your own website. This helps search engines discover your content and helps users navigate your site, keeping them engaged longer.
