On-Page SEO Best Practices

On-page SEO involves optimizing the elements *on* your website to improve search engine rankings and user experience. This is the part of SEO you have the most direct control over.

Core On-Page SEO Elements

Title Tags
The clickable headline in search results. It should be unique, descriptive, under 60 characters, and include your primary keyword near the beginning.
Meta Descriptions
The short description under the title tag in search results. It doesn't directly impact rankings, but a compelling meta description increases Click-Through Rate (CTR). Keep it under 160 characters.
Header Tags (H1, H2, H3)
These structure your content. You should have only one H1 tag per page (your main title). Use H2s for main sections and H3s for sub-sections. Use keywords naturally in your headers.
URL Structure
Create short, descriptive, and keyword-rich URLs. For example: `your-site.com/blog/on-page-seo-guide` is much better than `your-site.com/p=123`.
Image Alt Text
Alt text describes an image for visually impaired users and search engines. It's an opportunity to include relevant keywords and improve accessibility.
Internal Linking
Linking to other relevant pages on your own website. This helps search engines discover your content and helps users navigate your site, keeping them engaged longer.
